Goodbye 2012, Hello 2013!

Monday, December 31, 2012

As we approach a brand new year, it's only natural to reflect on what the past year has handed us. I sit here, writing this post, thankful for all of the wonderful things that came into my life this year. A new job that I love, new friends that have already turned into family, and many, many other things that would bore you beyond belief. Like most people, I've also had my fair share of pain over the last 12 months. But how's that saying go? "In order to make it to the rainbow, you must make it through the rain." Corny? Possibly. But it really resonates with me lately. I'm a firm believer in that everything happens for a reason. It's hard to sit back and let life happen as it may (and I'm certainly guilty of trying to control every aspect of mine), but for 2013, I hope to enjoy every step of the way. The good times and the bad. And I wish every one of you the happiest and healthiest of years. Thanks for stopping by every so often to check out my humble little blog. Now that the craziness of the holidays is behind us, I hope to get back into posting more regularly. Be safe tonight and Happy New Year!

Here are a few of my favorite shots from twenty twelve

See you in 2013!

Holiday Plaid + Sequins

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

Shirt: J.Crew (similar); Skirt: Ann Taylor; Belt: Express (old); Tights: Hue; Heels: Charles David; Clutch: F21; Necklace: F21

I guess there are worse things than having multiple holiday parties to attend, right? Lately I've actually been looking forward to Mondays (I know, what's wrong with me?!) because it means I can get through my work day and potentially go to bed at a decent time. Working in retail means this time of year is insanely busy and the days have been blending into one another. That's great for getting to the end goal of a little vacation time with the fam, but really bad for sleeping schedules and stress levels.

Last week Rue La La had their annual holiday party and we all got to enjoy a night off to dance and let loose. While some let loose a little more than others, it was a night enjoyed by all. Our dress code was "festive casual" so I decided to mix a little holiday plaid with some festive sequins. Add a red lip and a pearl necklace and voila! I was instantly back in the Christmas spirit.

My fellow blogger friend Linds opted for another holiday color scheme I love, white and blue. How stunning does she look?

Dress, shoes & clutch, all TJ Maxx (the girl can find some amazing deals!)

What's your go-to holiday look? Are you more of a traditional green and red gal, or are you more in line with the colors in Lindsay's look?

Happy Holidays loves! Safe travels and enjoy the time off with your family and friends.

Black + White

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

Top: Zara (recent); Velvet Pants: Paige; Heels: J.Crew; Bag: Zara (old); Watch: Michael Kors "Runway"; Nails: OPI Lincoln Park After Dark

Black and white is my go-to color combination. It's classic, chic, and looks good on everyone. I love the leather details on this top. As seen in my last few posts, I'm slightly obsessed with all things {faux} leather right now. Just picked up some fab H&M skinnies for $35 that I can't wait to post!

L's Holiday Gift Guide

The holidays are all about giving. And my absolute favorite part of gift giving is the look on my family and friends' faces when they open something they truly enjoy. Whether it's a Peace, Love & Barbecue book for my dad or a cool gold giraffe paperweight for one of my girlfriends, these handpicked gifts are a small token of my appreciation.

I LOVE holiday shopping but I cannot stand the crowds so I tend to do most of my shopping online. Be sure to look for websites that offer free shipping or coupon codes. Websites like offer free gift wrapping on all orders, how amazing is that? Oh and today only (12/5), Brooks Brothers is offering 40% off everything. No more procrastinating, get out there and shop! Happy Holidays everyone.

Winterized Leather Peplum

Monday, December 3, 2012

Jacket: J.Crew Factory; Vegan Leather Peplum: Piperlime; Blouse: J.Crew; Jeans: J Brand; Heels: Zara; Bag: Chanel; Nails: OPI Lincoln Park After Dark

Winter is in full swing so lately I've been trying to find ways to get use out of my summer and fall pieces without freezing to death. The answer: layers. Instead of throwing a blazer over my leather peplum top (last seen HERE), I added a simple blouse underneath and can now enjoy it for months to come. Plus the contrast between the soft girly blouse and the "tough" leather top is fun.

Happy Monday!

The Circle Skirt

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

Skirt: F21; Sweater: J.Crew Tippi; Tights: Target; Shoes: J.Crew; Necklace: Stella & Dot; Watch: Michael Kors "Runway"; Bangles: Alex & Ani

Hi guys! Hope everyone had a fabulous Turkey Day! It was a beautiful day in Central New York and shortly thereafter, it dropped about 30 degrees and snowed. There's something so comforting about being around loved ones and friends who have known you forever. It's so easy to get caught up in life and the problems we think we have -- I know I'm guilty of that. Then I arrive home to my tiny little town that no one else in the world has heard of and voila, I'm reminded that my family, friends and I are really pretty fortunate.

The Comfy Dress

Wednesday, November 21, 2012

Dress: Fossil; Tights: Hue; Boots: Victoria's Secret; Watch: Michael Kors "Runway"; Bangles: Alex & Ani; Spike Bracelet: Stella & Dot

Apologies for the major lull in posting the last two weeks. My personal life has been in a transition period of sorts so I've been taking some time to organize my new apartment, relax and rejunivate. I'm heading back home to Central New York today and couldn't be more excited to see my favorite familiar faces. How are you spending your Thanksgiving?

This is the dress I brought home from the Fossil event last week. I'd been looking for a comfy shift dress that still looked cute on and this fit the bill perfectly. I love the feather print and the colors are ideal for this time of year. I also can't wait to belt it and pair it with riding boots.

Safe travels & Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Fossil Holiday Wish List

Thursday, November 15, 2012

It's that time of year again -- the air is colder, Christmas music is floating through air, and our "To Do" lists seem never-ending. Regardless of how hectic this time can be, it's one of my favorite times of year. There's something so fun about shopping for loved ones and the smell of Christmas cookies permeating the house.

I stopped by Fossil last night to check out their new Holiday collection and found items I know every one of my friends and family members will love. And naturally I found a few for myself. Fossil has really stepped up their jewelry game as of late. Not to mention the clothing! I purchased a dress while I was there (stay tuned for an outfit post!) and may or may not have left with a few gifts. I know I'm not alone with the whole "one for you, one for me" approach to holiday shopping. Am I right?

LOVE this Explorer Tote

How great are these watches & bangles?

Don't forget to check out my Fossil Holiday Wish List video HERE (and please don't judge my on-camera awkwardness!)

Leather Jacket

Thursday, November 8, 2012

Leather Jacket: Elie Tahari (similar HERE); Blouse: Madewell; Boyfriend jeans: Gap (similar HERE); Heels: Zara; Bag: Michael Kors; Sunnies: Chloe; Ring: Bobbles & Lace, Portsmouth, NH

Say hello to my favorite piece in my closet (at the moment). I scored this Elie Tahari 100% genuine leather jacket jacket in our most recent Rue Associate Sample Sale. The best part? I only paid $25 for it. Incredible because it retails for over $400. Now that's what I call amazing employee benefits!

These shots are the last of the ones snapped by my favorite photog Kim. I don't know what else to say other than SHE'S AMAZING. I wish we could play dress up and have photo shoots every day!

Have a great weekend loves!

Graphic Sweater Remix + A Special Guest

Monday, November 5, 2012

Jacket: J.Crew; Sweater: J.Crew; Gingham Shirt: J.Crew Factory; Jeans: Gap (old); Boots: Ralph Lauren; Watch: Michael Kors "Runway"; Bangles: Alex & Ani

How is it already Monday again? This weekend absolutely flew by! I spent it up in Maine visiting my cousin, her husband and their three kiddos. One of which helped direct this photo session. Her name is Libby and she's a little fashionista in training. She makes a guest appearance below -- no attitude on that child, huh? She's a riot.

This sweater has been on repeat as of late. It's the perfect casual weekend piece but I also can't wait to pair it with a circle skirt, tights & heels for a day at the office.

Future Fashion Blogger, Libby Lou

A special thank you shout out to my cousin Kim, the super-talented photographer who snapped these shots. She has a great eye and is also a ton of fun to work with. Who knows, you might even see a giveaway coming up on the blog soon!

Cozy Leather

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Sweater: Zara; {Faux} Leather Pants: Target ($23! Dream pair HERE); Heels: J.Crew; Bag: Zara; Watch: Michael Kors; Bracelets: Stella & Dot, Alex & Ani; Nails: Essie "Chinchilly"

My favorite way to wear leather pants is with a completely unexpected, cozy, oversized sweater. And can you believe these pants were only $23? I've long been contemplating splurging on a well-made, high end version but can't yet justify the expense. So until then, this super affordable pair will do!

These photos were taken prior to the wrath of Sandy, as evidenced by the pretty leaves on the ground. Now the leaves are either brown, muddy piles or completely blown away. We were lucky here in Boston... I know those in New York and New Jersey weren't so lucky. My prayers are with everyone affected!

Oh, and Happy Halloween!
